The Foundation of any Successful Business

It’s been said many times but apparently, it needs to be said again. For a business to be successful, it must have a solid foundation. One important part of a solid foundation is a reputation for integrity. Honesty and integrity may not have a dollar value but if you don’t have any, you won’t last long in any business.

If you are interested in the advice from famous business tycoons of the past, you will notice they all have one thing in common; they all stress the importance of integrity and honesty in all their dealings, private or business.

Integrity and honesty are so important when it comes to developing and keeping a customer. If all dealings are completely honest and all complaints are handled properly, that is, to the customer’s complete satisfaction, you will have a customer for life. Imagine, if every customer you acquire always buys from you, and recommends you to their friends and family, for their lifetime.

If this happened with every customer, you would have an ongoing successful business for your children to run, and their children.

Abraham Lincoln said, ‘You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time’. You’re objective in building a successful business is not to fool anyone. Integrity, honesty and service should be your method of operation.

If you can develop a relationship of trust with your customers, it doesn’t matter about anything else. Your customers will forgive a mistake on occasion as long as you have their trust. They will accept your advice and often pay more for your superior product, based on your reputation, than they would from someone they didn’t trust.

It makes good business sense to keep any customer you acquire. The cost of getting that customer decreases with every sale. That means a more efficient business. Imagine, if every satisfied customer recommended their friends and family to your business. The efficiency of your business increases and the cost of acquiring customers decreases.
